William Shakespeare’s life can be divided into three periods: the
first 20 years in Stratford, which include his schooling, early marriage, and fatherhood; the next 25 years as an actor and
playwriter in London; and the last five in retirement back in Stratford where he enjoyed his money gained from his writing
success.
Present copies of Shakespeare’s plays have, in some cases, been edited to fit scripts written down
by various members of an acting company who performed certain roles. Shakespeare’s plays belonged to the acting
company. The performance, rather than the script, was what concerned Shakespeare, for this is how his play would become popular—and
how the company, in which many actors were counting on, would make money.

What's New?
Most recently, there have been several remakes to some of Shakespeare's popular plays such as the well known starring
Leonardo DiCaprio version of Romeo and Juliet.
There are also many schools who have mixed Shakespeare in to the reading ciriculum. The most popular are Macbeth,
A Mid Summer's Night Dream and of course, Romeo and Juliet.
